How Much Power Is Actually Smart? My 3-Month Ride with the iENYRID ES1
Electric scooters are everywhere these days. You’ve probably seen them zipping around town—small, lightweight, ultra-portable. Great for short commutes. Super convenient.
But there's another breed showing up: hyper-scooters. High-powered, high-torque beasts that look more like electric motorcycles than city rides. Some of them claim to outrun cars. And with prices dropping, more people are skipping the baby steps and jumping straight into these monsters.
Makes sense, right? We all love having that extra power, even if we don’t need it daily. It just feels good.
So if you're shopping for a fast, sporty e-scooter, here’s the question:
How much power is actually smart?
And beyond just watts… what else matters?
Most importantly:
Are high-powered scooters pure fun—or potential death traps?
Let me break it all down using my personal ride: the iENYRID ES1.
Definitely Something That Takes Getting Used To
First day on my ES1. No clue what “2×1200W dual drive” meant. My last scooter? A tiny 350W city model from years ago. So I figured—how fast could this thing really be?
Started in ECO mode. Smooth pull to 12 mph. Chill.
Switched to STAD. Boom—16 mph in seconds.
Hit TURBO. Suddenly 20 mph with real punch.
The throttle? Sharp, responsive, no lag. Felt way more aggressive than anything I’d ridden before.
And that was just single motor mode.
Once I flipped on dual drive and removed the speed limiter (tap the M button 5 times—yup, that easy), the screen flashed "37". That’s 37 mph potential. I’d seen YouTubers hit it. But me? 140 pounds, not exactly a daredevil.
Still, I found an empty road and went for it.
Instantly the throttle became hypersensitive. No joke—it felt like a wild animal. Touch it too hard and the wheels would just burn out. Controlling it was like balancing on glass. One wrong move and I’d be gone. Thank God I picked a place with nothing to crash into.
Eventually, I got more confident. Cruising at around 15 mph, I gave it a bit more juice...
“HOLY SH*T!”
That’s literally all I could think.
The acceleration hit like a sledgehammer. I had to lean forward hard and grip the bars like I was holding on for dear life. One misstep, and I'd be launched backwards.
It felt like being inside a hurricane.
My legs hurt, my palms were sweaty, my heart was racing.
And I wasn’t even close to full throttle.
So... How Much Power Is Enough?
Let’s be real:
-
My old 350W scooter barely did 15 mph.
-
It couldn’t handle hills.
-
It was fun—but limited.
So when I upgraded to the 2400W ES1, I wanted to feel some real power. And I got it.
But here’s my honest take:
If you’re just using your scooter for commuting, this is total overkill. Even in single-drive mode, 1200W is more than enough to handle hills, hit 30+ mph, and give you sporty acceleration.
iENYRID actually makes 500W to 800W models, which I think are the sweet spot for city riding. They’re lighter, easier to control, and way less intimidating.
But Is Power All That Matters?
Power is addictive—but raw wattage means nothing without the build to back it up.
The ES1 gets this right:
✅ Solid Frame
Built from high-carbon steel. No rattles. No flex. Feels like a tank—reassuring at high speed.
✅ Serious Brakes
Dual 5.5-inch disc brakes. Responsive and reliable, even when braking hard from high speeds.
✅ Real Suspension
Dual hydraulic shocks. They soak up bumps, smooth out rough trails, and keep your tires planted.
✅ Big Battery, Long Range
20.8Ah battery means you can ride hard for miles without stressing over range anxiety.
These aren’t extras—they’re non-negotiables on high-power scooters.
So… Fun Toy or Death Machine?
Here’s the thing.
Scooters—especially fast ones—require more balance and control than bikes or motorcycles. You’ve got a short wheelbase and a standing position. That means a higher center of gravity.
Every movement matters:
-
Accelerate? You get thrown backwards.
-
Brake hard? You lurch forward.
-
Lean into curves? You’d better have your knees bent.
With my old scooter, I never thought about “technique.” But the ES1 forced me to learn it—or risk face-planting. It taught me how to ride properly, and that made me respect the machine even more.
That’s the beauty of scootering:
It’s not just about speed. It’s about mastery.
About feeling connected to the ride.
About finding joy in the balance and control.
Riding Isn't Just Transport—It's Therapy
Sometimes I gun it. Dual drive on full send.
Other times I just cruise slow, breeze in my face, no destination in mind.
And I’m not alone.
There’s a guy I follow on Facebook—A Unique Perspective. He struggled with agoraphobia. Then he bought an iENYRID scooter. Since then, he’s been riding almost daily. Hitting trails, ramps, open fields. Now he runs a charity, helping others rediscover life outside through scootering.
That’s real freedom.
Power, Responsibility & Pure Joy
So yeah… the iENYRID ES1 is a beast.
It’s fast. It’s thrilling. It’s terrifying sometimes.
But when you learn to respect the power, something magical happens.
With great power comes great… suspension, brakes, and steel frames. 😄
But seriously—when those are in place, and your confidence grows?
You stop worrying about specs.
You start feeling the pure joy of the ride.
Whether you're flying at 30 mph or cruising at 12, scootering offers a freedom and connection few other vehicles can match.
